Gerald M. Ritzert
Gerry, a principal with Ritzert & Leyton since its inception in 1994, focuses on a broad spectrum of issues on behalf of his clients. His work for the firm’s postsecondary education law practice includes representing institutions in federal courts, and administrative hearings and matters involving the U.S. Department of Education as well as accrediting agencies.
He also guides clients in complying with regulations or accreditation standards. Gerry routinely plays a key role in negotiating and closing mergers and acquisitions for the firm’s higher education clients.
Further, he conducts internal investigations and OIG investigations centered on regulatory issues and controversies involving the U.S. Department of Education, the OIG and accrediting agencies.
In addition, Gerry routinely advises and litigates on behalf of clients in areas such as employment law, contract law, and other business-related matters. His representation also features litigating state and federal-court controversies.
Gerry received his B.A. (Finance) and M.B.A. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and J.D. from George Mason University Law School. He is admitted to practice law in Virginia and Maryland.
