Postsecondary Education Law

Ritzert & Leyton’s higher/postsecondary education group offers a unique combination of experience and expertise in the highly specialized and regulated areas of federal-student financial assistance, accreditation, licensure, corporate and tax-related matters, and mergers and acquisitions of postsecondary institutions.  We represent clients from both a corporate and regulated-industry perspective.

The firm understands applicable laws, regulations, and procedures, as well as the organizations and people who regulate institutions of higher education.  We assist and counsel our clients in understanding and navigating the complex regulatory framework affecting postsecondary institutions to manage and avoid problems.  When necessary, we defend clients before regulatory agencies and in federal and state courts.

Our education clients include postsecondary education institutions of all types and sizes, including privately held, non-profit, and publicly traded institutions; private equity and venture capital firms; investment bankers; investment analysts; and financial institutions.  We have substantial experience representing clients in administrative proceedings before the U.S. Department of Education, accrediting agencies, and state licensing agencies, as well as in federal and state courts in connection with compliance, transactions, administrative defense, and litigation.
